The herb is also called nettle or house nettle. Perennial, up to 1.5 m tall herbaceous plant, with 4 - ridged, often violet-red hollow stem, covered with hairs. The leaves are opposite, with petioles, palmately cut, the lower large-toothed, and the upper 3-lobed, darker on top, light green below. The flowers are bright red, located several in the axils of the upper leaves, and are small and hairy. The calyx is tubular - bell-shaped, with 5 prickly teeth. The corolla is tubular, with hairs inside. It blooms in summer to autumn. Chemical composition: The alkaloids mondrin and stahydrin, tannins, flavonoids (rutin), quinqueloside, the bitter alkaloid leonurin, saponins, bitter substances, fruit acids, vitamin C. The ash residue contains potassium, calcium, sodium and sulfur. Preparation: 1-2 teaspoons of herbs soak for 10 minutes in 250 ml of boiling water. Usage: internally in the form of infusion 2 cups a day. Note: consult a doctor before use. In case of overdose, drowsiness, frequent urination, slow pulse, hypotension are observed.
